We were sitting on the edge of our seats. Literally. Refreshing. Waiting. Hoping.

March 31st was supposed to be the big day. Midjourney Version 7. A new level of image generation magic.

But here we are: April 1st. No official confirmation. No release. No "ta-da!" from the Midjourney team.

So what’s going on?

Was this the biggest AI April Fools’ joke of the year?

Because if it was well played, Midjourney. You got us.

🤖 What is Midjourney 7 Supposed to Be About?

Based on what’s been floating around, Version 7 was expected to bring:

  • Better prompt understanding

  • More photorealism

  • Faster rendering

  • More control over details like faces, hands, lighting, etc.

Basically, everything we want from our AI bestie with a paintbrush.

The hype was real—especially for us at Frozen Light. We use Midjourney every week for our Weekly Freeze videos, so we were READY.

💥 Meanwhile... ChatGPT Took a Swing

Last week, ChatGPT dropped a surprise image generation update that made a lot of people say:

"Wait... do I even need Midjourney anymore?"

Yep. That's good.

People started comparing outputs, sharing side-by-sides, and some even said they were canceling their Midjourney subscriptions. 😬

Now, we’re not saying that’s the reason Midjourney 7 didn’t launch. But the timing? Suspiciously spicy.

We started seeing vague posts, some half-leaked updates, and... a whole lot of nothing.

So we let our imaginations run wild. Because frankly—we were bored.

🤷‍♀️ What Does It Mean for You?

If you're a creator, designer, or AI-curious person, this whole moment reminds us of something important:

  • Don’t wait around for tools to save your creativity.

  • Use what you’ve got. Test everything.

  • And always, always have a backup plan for when the magic doesn’t show up.

❄️ The Frozen Light Perspective

We were counting the minutes, planning our next Freeze, and dreaming of what Midjourney 7 would do.

Instead? We got a whole lot of "maybe," "not yet," and "soon."

All we could find online was half-information. No confirmation. No denial. Just vibes.

And that left us asking:

Was it postponed because of ChatGPT's glow-up? Was it not ready? Was it never meant to be March 31?

We don’t know. So we did what any mildly obsessed AI creative team would do:

  • Imagined what it could be

  • Made jokes about it in Slack

  • And got back to work using what we already have

Here’s the thing: Imagination doesn’t need a version number.

So whether Midjourney 7 lands tomorrow or next month—we’ll be ready. We’ll test it. And we’ll probably make memes about it.

But until then... the wait continues.
